The STOP sign is the only octagon-shaped (8-sided) sign you see on the highway. At an intersection with a STOP sign, you must stop completely, check for pedestrians and cross traffic to clear the intersection before you go again. Slowing down without coming to a full stop is illegal.

CHEVRON SIGNS. These signs warn you of a change in direction or narrowing of the road. You may find several of these signs on the outside of a sharp curve or on approaches to a narrow bridge.

Work Zone Signs are normally shaped like warning signs, but they are black and orange. These signs are used only near maintenance, construction or utility areas. They are placed on or near the roadway. Stay alert and slow down when you see these signs.

The bicycle crossing sign provides you with an early warning that the road you are traveling on will have a bicycle crossing up ahead. Slow down and be on the look-out for cyclists entering and exiting the road. Remember the rules of sharing the road with cyclists.

YIELD. Slow down and give vehicles crossing your path the right-of-way. If the way is clear, you may move forward slowly without stopping. Yield signs are usually placed where auxiliary roads lead into major roads.

A diamond-shaped sign on a truck means that the load on the truck is potentially dangerous (gas, explosives, etc.). Police department and fire department officers know what to do if the load is accidentally spilled. Vehicles which display these signs are required to stop before crossing railroad tracks.

NO RIGHT TURN. Do not make a right turn at an intersection marked by the "NO RIGHT TURN" sign. You can either travel straight through the intersection or turn left.

The "NO TRUCKS" sign forbids large trucks from entering a roadways where the sign is installed.

SLIPPERY WHEN WET. In wet weather, reduce your speed. Do not speed up or brake quickly. Make turns at a very slow speed.

SCHOOL AHEAD. The shape of a pentagon is reserved for school signs. This five-sided sign means you are near a school. Watch for children.

KEEP RIGHT. The sign marks a traffic island or a highway divider and it warns you to stay to the right of the obstacle. When this sign is installed at a highway, it may also be accompanied by the "DIVIDED HIGHWAY BEGINS" yellow warning sign.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING. Watch for people crossing the street. Slow down or stop if necessary. Remember that people crossing the street on the pedestrian crossing have the right-of-way.

Guide signs, also known as destination signs, are green with white letters. Guide signs provide information about intersecting roads, help direct you to cities and towns, and show points of interest along the highway.

NO LEFT TURNS. This sign indicates that left turns are prohibited. Do not make a left turn at this intersection.

CENTER TURN LANE. The center lane is shared for left turns in both directions of travel. Traveling or passing in the center turn lane is forbidden.

DIP. There is a low place up ahead in on the road. Water may accumulate in the dip and driving through the water at high speeds may cause hydroplaning, a condition when water accumulates under the tire and you lose control of the vehicle. Slowing down when you see a dip road sign is always the safest choice.

LEFT CURVE. The roadway ahead curves to the left. Slow your speed and keep well to the right.
